Obado, co-accused suffer blow in attempt to postpone Sharon murder case, July 12-15 new date

Migori governor Okoth Obado and co-accused attempt to postpone hearing over murder charges of his girlfriend Sharon Otieno and their newborn child failed on July 5.

The hearing of a case will proceed from July 12 to 15 after attempts to have the case postponed, citing Covid-19 restrictions stopped the trial from starting on July 5, and was to run for the next two weeks.

But the Justice Cecilia Githua in her orders said the DPP will only avail two witnesses per day with the number of participants and people attending the hearing restricted to accused persons and their counsels over Covid protocols.

Only teams from DPP’s office, counsel from family and family of the deceased will be available in court.

Obado was represented Kioko Kilukumi and Rodgers Sagana while Prof Tom Ojienda came in for second accused Micheal Oyamo and Elsiha Ongoya for third accused Casper Obiero.

The DPP is being represented by Catherine Mwaniki.

On June 17, the Minister for Health designated 13 counties, among them Migori as a Covid-19 hotspots over the fast spread of the delta variant in Western region and the governor’s lawyers said “it’s not the intention of Obado to delay or derail prosecution of this matter.”
