(PHOTOS) Uriri residents block Kisii-Migori road, demo over insecurity after watchman killed

Traffic along the busy Migori-Kisii highway was disrupted for the better part of Wednesday as angry Uriri residents demonstrated over insecurity after a nightwatchman was killed on Tuesday in cold blood.

Angry residents led by Uriri Light Academy director Jack Bambo called on police to reverse the worrying trend in the area after a sad Tuesday night robbery at Da Comrade Resort left Jorum Gavaga, a watchman dead after his body was found in a pool of blood.

His colleague Owino Ondego was found fighting for his life after being tied with a rope and had deep panga cuts across the body.

“We are sadden as this ugly death came just three days after an Mpesa agent was left for death after robbers attacked him at his premises where he lost almost Sh900,000 in stock and cash,” Bambo told Migori News.

He said there have been widespread cases of muggings and general burglary in the area and challenged police to move with speed and curb insecurity.

Natheniel Odipo Accountant at Da Comrade Resort said when he opened the door he was surprised “it was broken and the pad lock where on the ground, when I went in the I found several items including five set of TV stolen.”

He estimated that the items that has been stolen along sited the five Television set and cash money, all worth over Sh.450,000.

Local business community led by Daniel Gujra said criminals have become notorious at the market and the nearby villages, attacking and injuring people even at day time.

Uriri Deputy County Commissioner Mornica Kang’ethe however asked the demonstrators to calm down saying all was being done to apprehend the thugs as the body of the deceased has been taken to Migori Referral Hospital.
