Migori governor Ochillo Ayacko calls for renewed effort to complete county stadium has excited sports stakeholders.
Abdi Aziz the National Super League side Migori Youth Football FC chairman and the Migori county Football Kenya Federation chairman Paul Migwambo lauded the renewed commitment.
On Saturday, Ayacko said they will renew commitment to finish construction of stadium that has stalled for a decade with his predecessor Okoth Obado failing to build it.
Migori County Stadium has not been completed to date despite having been allocated over Sh50 million since 2014 after it was among former governor Okoth Obado two terms campaign pledges.
Some Sh30 million had been allocated for the completion of the works at the stadium in the financial year 2014/2015 for its completion after it had stalled in 2013 ‘due to lack of funds’.
“As an administration we will promote sports at all levels. We will also try in our next budget to have playgrounds that will promote the Olympic spirit,” Ayacko said.
He was speaking when he flagged off young players aged under 23 for the Kenya Young Inter-County Sports Association (KYISA) Games in Tharaka Nithi on Sunday.
Aziz said in Nyanza region only Migori did not have any stadium as “nearby Homa Bay, Kisumu and Siaya counties had their kick off. We hope never to be left behind as a county.”
