Two gold miners died at Masara mines in Suna West, forcing government to close the mines temporarily amid heavy downpour in the area rendering the mines unsafe.

Area chief Dorothy Achieng Olande told Migori News that Steve Ochieng,20 was already dead when he was pulled out of a collapsed mine.

His colleague Michael Okumu,20, also died shortly after being rescued from the mine.

“They had spent over 20 hours n the mines as colleagues and Red Cross officials tried to rescue them after mine walls collapsed,” Olande said.

The bodies of the two miners have been taken to Migori level four hospital mortuary.
