Speaker Ogolla sent home for days over corruption claims

Migori county assembly has passed a resolution that will see the speaker of the county assembly, majority leader and minority leader to step aside over allegations of misappropriation of sh 12milion that are alleged to have been used in corrupt manner.

Addressing the press after the afternoon session at the assembly premises deputy speaker and ward representative for North Kadem Boaz Okoth said that the county assembly has made a resolution that will see the speaker of the county assembly Gordon Ogolla,majority leader Richard Solo and minority leader Charles Nyangi to step aside for sixty days over allegations of misappropriation of the sh 12million to allow room for investigations into the alleged scandal that put him under pressure from the Migori county assembly members.

“The county assembly has resolved that the three to step aside to allow for proper investigations over the scandal that has been the topic of debate for the past one month in the assembly with the members of the assembly who wanted to impeach the speaker over the scam, ”he said.

The deputy speaker stressed that the three led by the speaker must give room for investigation to take place to know and ascertain if they were involved in the scandal after the public investments committee and the public accounts committee recommended in a report that was tabled in the assembly the chairman of the committee Matthew Chacha that showed the three have to step aside to allow for the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission to conduct proper investigation.

“Those who have been involved in the alleged scandal have to step aside and give the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission to conduct investigations into the alleged scandal and if not found guilty of the offence they will be reinstated back to the office.”he added.

The member of the county assembly for Masaba ward Abedi Maroa who is also the chairman of the budget and appropriation committee said that the assembly members have come to a resolution not to impeach the county assembly speaker but want him to give room for the investigation to take place.

On the same fate the member of the county assembly for North Kanyamkago George Omamba affirmed the fact that the county assembly and the public Investments Committee made the recommendations that have to be adhered to make sure that the residents of the county feel the impact of the members of the county assembly who in the past have been blamed for not playing the oversight role in the affairs of the county.

In response to the members of the county assemblies resolution for the speaker to step aside the speaker responded by saying that the county assembly must communicate to him in written form to show that they want him to step aside stating the reasons why him and those implicated in the scam has to step aside but the majority leader and the minority leader accepted to step aside to be investigated over the scandal.

“Members of the county assembly have to write to me to show that they want me to step aside over the alleged misappropriation of the funds according to the Public Investments Committee that want him, majority leader, minority and the clerk of the county assembly to step aside over the scandal, ”he said.

The speaker told the press that the allegations levelled against him have to make sure that they are well prepared to face the law in the courts to give room for the allegations over the millions scandal in the assembly.
