Suna East politician and Nairobi based lawyer Gad Awuonda has joined the race to replace Migori senator Wilfred Machage in 2017.

Awuonda who was addressing mourners at a funeral on Saturday said he will vie for the seat in an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket.

He hails from God Jope ward and has vast experience in constitutional review and making and wants to use his skills to boost devolution in Migori and Kenya.

Awuonda took a swipe at Machage and called him an ‘absentee senator’ for failure of bringing together the senate and county assembly to help develop the county.

“Apart from two funerals, Machage is yet to open up the Migori county senate office to MCAs and county government to help bring development in Migori county,” he said.

He also said it is time for Migori politics and leadership to shift to younger generation and called for Suna East politician and former Migori MP Owino Likowa to pull off from the race and support his candidature.
