Migori Women Representative Dr. Pamela Odhiambo has asked the Ministry of health to come to the rescue of people living with HIV after they were displaced by floods in Nyatike.

This is after it emerged some of them fled their homes, without ARVs as they were invaded by floods.

According to Dr. Odhiambo, those living with HIV risked death as they had stopped taking their drugs due to the calamity that had befallen them.

“I am aware that you people (HIV positive) are not supposed to miss even a single dose but these floods are subjecting you to this untold suffering,” Dr. Odhiambo said.

People living with HIV chairperson Isaiah Nyangito Jakech said some of them had no means to access their drugs due to the heavy floods.

“We were ambushed at night and we did not get a chance to carry our drugs,” Jakech said.

Jakech asked relevant health departments help them access ARVs.

He also asked well-wishers to help people living with HIV get access to food to help them in the uptake of their drugs.

Dr. Odhiambo speaking at Modi Catholic Church, asked community health workers and relevant health officials to help them access their drugs.

The Migori Women Representative also donated food items to women and children who were camping at Modi Catholic Church.

She also visited Modi Secondary School where she donated food items to the school and sanitary towels to the girls.
