Kuria man holds wedding same day he walks from 6 years imprisonment

Residents of Tagare ward in Kuria West sub-county are reeling in awe after a man surprised many by planning his wedding to coincide with the day of his release from prison.

Paul Chacha Mageto who was released from prison today wedded Grace Mahiri Chacha in a colourful wedding that attracted an innumerable multitude from all over his village that came to experience the rare spectacle.

Speaking to the press Mageto said their plans to have their wedding at an earlier date did not materialise as he was arrested, bringing their plans to an unexpected halt.

“I feared that my family would crumble since we had not made official our stay together by conducting the requisite cultural practises,” Mageto confessed.

Mageto was arrested after he was nabbed with bang and there after prosecuted to serve a six year sentence at Migori prison.

By the time of his arrest Mageto was married to the 1971 born lady and they had borne six children though their stay together had not been officiated.

The man who was sorry for his crime said the day was so special in their lives compelling him to make it unique by making it coincide with the day of his release from prison.

Migori prison commander Barnabas Kinyor revealed that he was also surprised at the Mageto had not spoken of the planned marriage throughout his sentence period till time for his release neared.

“I have not heard of such an occurrence, at least not at Migori prison but it is a good sign that the man always thought of his family,” Kinyor said.

Kinyor said he alongside some prison waders accompanied the ex-convict to his Tagare ward so as to show support to him during his happy moment after his stay at the prison.

The man’s wife Mahiri who couldn’t hide her joy intimated that he had been faithful to his husband even as he visited him from time to time as served his prison sentence.

“I am very happy because the moment that I have been waiting for has come. I have undergone a lot of torture since my husband was locked away,” Mahiri intimated.

Mahiri said she was happy for their re-union saying that she would help her lovely husband adapt to life after prison and at the same time prayed that they live a happy life together.
