ODM demotes Junet as Director of Elections to head campaigns

ODM has scrapped Suna East MP Junet Mohammed’s director of elections position, the Star has established.

The revelations emerged as ODM National Executive Committee endorsed fresh branch elections across the country beginning June.

In what could be interpreted as demotion, Junet – a vocal defender of party leader Raila Odinga, will now be the director of campaigns in the new power structure.

It is understood the position was scrapped because of political rifts and mandate overlaps with the National Elections Board chaired by Judy Pareno.

“There was a strong feeling the mandate of the office was overlapping with that of the elections board. This
would create more political rifts,” a NEC member who attended the ODM Maanzoni Lodge retreat told the Star.
