Ghati challenges county government to close illegal clinics

The Migori county government has been challenged to move ahead with a crackdown and close all illegal clinics procuring illegal abortions.

Dennitah Ghati, the Migori Women Representative said it is sad that girls continue lose their lives as illegal clinics continue to make money through procuring illegal abortions.

An audit should be carried out on all clinics and profession of the medics investigated to help curb the menace.

“I want the police and county government to shut down all illegal clinics operating in the county without licence,” she said.

Speaking to Migori News Ghati said the recent incident in Opapo area where a 22 years old girls died after trying to procure abortion was sad and should be avoided.

“I call on police to quickly investigate and the medic responsible should be arrested and brought to book,” she said.

The decomposing body of the girl was found by a neighbor who sensed a bad oduor from the clinic which stayed locked for four days.

“We came to the clinic and when we peeped through the window our fears was confirmed as we saw a dead woman on the floor,” a villager said.

Rongo OCPD Catherine Irungu said they have crucial leads to arrest the owner of the clinic who escaped after the ordeal.
