I’ve been informed of attempts to transfer the rights of copper mines at Macalder, Nyatike constituency, to private investors.

The outrage by the locals whose livelihoods are dependent on the minefields indicates that they’re unhappy with the new developments.

This is not a light matter and as leaders, we must ensure that the community is involved and consensus reached before any investor is brought into the area.

I’m going to pursue this matter with other like-minded leaders from Migori County to ensure that the people of Macalder are not robbed off their source of bread.

We will pursue all options including but not limited to diplomacy, legal redress, political options et cetera. The era when greedy leaders used proxy investors to rob the community is long gone.
