As the parents wait for two weeks remaining for schools to reopens countrywide south
Nyanza booksellers have raised concerns over millions in debt owed by schools.

Their concerns comes in line with the decision by Education CS Fred Matiang’i to directly supply textbooks in schools to stop the loss of billions of shillings to corrupt networks in schools.

Speaking to Migori News, booksellers led by South Nyanza booksellers association chairman
Mark Kajwang said that schools still owe them millions for books supplied earlier this year.

Kajwang’ said they had been issued with LPOs to purchase books by schools for next year which saw them order millions worth of stock from publishers.

“Most of booksellers had already been issued with LPOs and even took loans to buy books for schools and supply them,” he said.

They added that most of bookshops have employed thousands of youths of which if the government continues they might be rendered jobless.

National distribution of books will be done on January 4th 2017 before students reopen schools for the first term which wil also kick off free secondary school education programme.
