Several schools in Nyatike sub-county risk  late opening after floods displaced over 600 household.

There is fear that several schools may delay opening ahead of January 6 schools re-opening.

Aluoch Sarok, the North Kadem ward administrator said those schools which risk delays are  Angugo, Nyora and Kabuto primary and secondary schools which are still under flood zones.

“For the sake of safety of students in those schools, we will access the flood situation and advise government to either offer alternative temporary centers of ensure they remain closed,” Sarok said.

He said Migori county government and Nyatike NG-CDF have mapped out emergency funds to improve infrastructure like repair of bridges and roads destroyed by floods to prevent accidents when students re-open school.

“We have risks of disease outbreak like cholera and malaria in schools, which has seen several water filters and treatment equipment already distributed to schools by partners ahead of opening,” Sarok said.
