Two prisoners are reported to have escaped with a pistol at the prisons Lichota farm in Migori county while at work in the farm after assaulting a prison warden.
The two who are now on the run are reported to have assaulted the warden after they overpowered and beat him up before taking his rifle pistol and escaped into the nearby sugarcane plantation.
According to the prison commander Barnabas Kinyor and Migori county police commandant David Kirui,the two who are now on the run were convicted at the Migori main prisons one for having stolen a motorbike and the other for stealing a cow and had started serving a jail term of three years and the other eight months.
“The two prisoners were convicted recently, one for stealing a motorbike and the other for stealing a cow and had started serving a jail term of three years and the other one for eight months,” they said.
The police commandant has however asked the police and the general public to be on the look out for the escaped prisoners who are likely to cross the border to Tanzania and assist the police in the hunt that has intensified in Migori town and its outskirts.
“I kindly ask the members of the public to be look out and be more vigilant to enable the police arrest them as the two are armed and dangerous and are likely to cross the border to Tanzania to hide,” he said.
The two who are on the run are likely to be a threat to the security of the county and the neighboring country Tanzania and other counties of Narok,Kisii and Homa Bay as they are likely to use the pistol to steal, cause harm and even kill innocent residents in the region.
Security agents have now been put on a high alert to investigate and arrest the two before they cause harm to the members of the public and also to enable them be convicted a fresh for illegal possessing a pistol and assaulting a prison warden while at work.
The police have also asked the neighbouring counties to look for the two prisoners and bring them back to Migori should they be found in those places.
