Trans Nzoia police arrest colleague with 8 guns, 197 rounds of ammunition

Trans Nzoia police officers on Tuesday night recovered a cache of eight guns and 197 rounds of ammunition from their colleague.

Detectives were tipped of a stranger accessing a house which turned up to belong to a police officer attached to the Judiciary.

The police officer Maxwell Tally Mutonyi, who lives in the Police Band quarters in the South B Nairobi Area was not present at the house during the raid.

When officers arrived, the unidentified suspect fled, leaving the door open.

The officers discovered a cache of weapons in the living room, including one UZI SMG rifle with magazine, a Smith and Wesson revolver and six Germany Walther pistols with magazines.

Police also recovered 197 rounds calibre 9 mm ammunitio, one smoke trouser, a jungle pullover, an Angola jungle shirt, one modified swagger cane and a colorless liquid in a five litre jerrycan.

A blue Peugeot of registration No. KAC 001W which was found outside the house was also impounded.
