Tony Obondo’s killer has escaped to Tanzania to evade arrest- police

The suspect who murdered political activist Tony Obondo last Monday has escaped to Tanzania to evade police arrest, police has said.

Police have also tied Obondo’s death to the governor’s election of 2017.

Tony Obondo, activist based in Suna East constituency was stabbed to death along Apida estate at dawn after a brawl caused by who will be the next governor of Migori county in 2017.

Migori county police commandant David Kirui sad they believed the suspect has crossed to Tanzania and said there is tension as residents plan to burn down the suspect’s house in retaliation.

“Obondo was murdered following a brawl on who will be the next governor of Migori in 2017. They had a disagreement which led to his death,” Kirui said.

He said they have crucial leads that will lead to arrest of more suspects.

Obondo was a key campaigner of aspirant Anne Omodho Anyanga based in Suna East constituency and his death has sent political shock waves across the county.

Already political leaders, Orange Democratic Movement and locals have called for arrests of the suspects.

Uriri MP John Kobado who is also county ODM chairman Nyatike MP Edick Anyanga and Suna East MP Junet Mohammed area among leaders who have condemned the murder in vernacular radio stations.

Suna East constituency ODM Organising Secretary Joseph Nyambori termed the death as a show of political intolerance in county, a spate he said should never be encouragee.
