Teachers want private students considered in Governors Scholarship

Teachers from Kuria East have called on governor Okoth Obado to Sub County have requested Migori governor Okoth Obado to consider students from private schools in his sponsorship dubbed “Masomo Kwa Wananchi”.

The governor’s sponsorship that is only targeting students from public primary schools has benefited over 200 students this year.

Speaking to the press in Kuria East, Kuria East Knut Secretary General Paul Mangiteni said the county government need to consider some students from the private schools.

“some of the schools we call private schools are not even private, they were built to help reduce congestion in the public schools and i think students from the schools should be considered  in the sponsorship just as the others”, he said.

Mangiteni also requested the county government to increase the number of students benefiting from the scholarship in order to give a large number chance of affording education.

“We are happy that the county government considered taking over 200 students within the county and sponsoring them fully, we look forward to see the number increased as that will help boost the level of education in almost all parts of the county”. He added.

Elsewhere, governor Obado promised to increase the number of students every year and stressed that the county government will give the public schools first priority.

Obado also confirmed the construction of Kegonga stadium to help- boost sport in the sub county and improve the youth’s talents in the county.

“We will raise the number of students we sponsor but at this time we will give public schools the first priority and this does not mean we are not considering the ones in the private sector”. He said.

Apart from the governor sponsorship there has been other organisations like Banks and NGOs in the county that gives sponsorship ion the county.
