A motorcyclist and two children were killed in a crash yesterday morning in Bomet town on the Sotik-Kaplong road.

Suna West MP Joseph Ndiege was injured in the car. He sustained minor injuries and was rushed to Tenwek Mission hospital.

Other occupants including the MP’s bodyguard, the driver, his two daughters and a son escaped unhurt.

The two children killed in the accident belong to Japheth Rutto, the brother of Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto. They were aged six and eight.

Bomet police boss Abel Sande, who was at the scene of the accident, did not confirm if the vehicle belongs to the MP. He said its ownership will be verified by the relevant authorities.

“For now we cannot confirm or deny that the vehicle belongs to the MP but such will be identified after we conclude our investigations,” Sande said.

The Toyota Land Cruiser rammed into the motorcycle as it tried to overtake a lorry, killing the three on the spot.

Witnesses said the speeding car rammed into the boda boda at a junction on the steep bend three kilometres from Bomet town.

Transport along the route had was paralysed for hours as angry residents barricaded the road in protest.

Residents dug a trench on the tarmac road at the scene of the accident. It took the joint efforts of the regular and Administration Police officers to calm the residents. County chief of administration officer Eric Kirui visited the scene.

Residents took a swipe at the Kenya National Highways Authority for not erecting bumps on the route.

The accident occurs barely a few months after a similar accident occurred at the same scene. –
