President mourns Ida Odinga’s mother who passed on at Ombo

President Uhuru Kenyatta has sent a message of condolence to the family, relatives and friends of the late Rose Ayuya, mother to Ida Odinga.

Ayuya passed on at St Joseph Mission Hopsital on Thursday evening.

In his message the President said that the late Rose Ayuya will be remembered for her outstanding service to the community and the nation having been the first African trained nurse in Kakamega.

President Kenyatta said mama Ayuya was a humble, industrious and kind-hearted person who served her family as well as the nation with a remarkable sense of duty.

He said mama Ayuya was a diligent and hard working lady who at the time when women were relegated to cultural duties decided to embrace education and the culture of saving cash by opening a bank account in Kakamega in 1937.

President Kenyatta said the late mama Rose Ayuya, who is the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s mother in law, will be remembered for her simplicity and generosity which earned her the respect and friendship of many.

The President prayed to God to give the bereaved family the fortitude to bear the tragic loss of their loved one.
