Nominated legislator Dennitah Ghati has launched a foundation for people living with disability in the country.

Ghati, the first Migori women representative was nominated by the ODM party to represent people with disability in the country.

The Dennitah Ghati Disability Foundation was launched at a colourful ceremony at Mabera DC grounds in Kuria West.

“We don’t want to leave any person living with disability behind, our motto will be mulika mulemavu, inua mulemavu to shine a spotlight for them to improve their socio-economic standing,” Ghati said.

She said her work has nominated MP for PwD has seen her transverse the country and internationally, “which makes this foundation to be owned by people with disability, not only Ghati.”

Happy faces

During the launch which also extended to Rongo, Nyatike and Suna area several aides for PwD were shared in the process.

Ghati challenged police to arrest and prosecute individuals who rape or defile Persons Living with Disability.

The legislator called on society to ensure all people living with disability are counted in the forthcoming national census.

Ghati said in most societies, PwD are hidden away from the public and feared the same might happened during the national census.

“We have communities in Kenya that complain of having fewer people, but never bring out those living with disabilities among them for census,” she said.
