Migori county government on Thursday launched a Sh200 million Eastern By-Pass road and Kiringi bridge to de-congest Migori town.

The road will connect Oruba -Ragana and Suna Central wards while another Western by-pass will be launched later which will also go ahead with construction of nine foot bridges in various wards.

“We will also launch the construction of the Western By-Pass and this will help decongest traffic jam in Migori town,” Governor Okoth Obado said.

Obado said that it is unfortunate that Migori town has only one bridge across the main highway which also links Kenya to neighboring Tanzania saying that any mishap at the bridge will automatically paralyzes transport and trading activities in the town and beyond .

“The bridge will also help in the expansion of Migori town hence boosting trade that has been hindered due to inaccessibility of the area,” he said.

The bridge will be constructed by China Wu Yi company and is expected to be completed on a year.
Obado challenged the company to ensure they employ locals in the job

The governor also said residents who have encroached on road reserves should leave them free for construction.

“I am also putting on notice all those people who have encroached on road reserves to move out as the government will soon move to open up roads in these areas and any eviction will be at the cost of the culprits,” he said.
