Suna East MP Junet Mohammed is said to have threatened to resign from ODM party and drop Director of Elections post over mistreatment by colleagues.

The popular legislator has been close to ODM leader Raila Odinga, which has created disquiet among colleagues.

He power grew when he was the only legislator to accompany Raila Odinga for the handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta, which was in the dark to many leaders including those who thought were closure to the ODM leader.

“Unbeknown to many, Mr Mohamed had threatened to resign from his position in the party, where he is also the director of elections, to protest against “mistreatment” by some ODM members,” the Saturday Nation reported.

According to the paper, recent visit to Dubai by Junet and Mombasa governor Hassan Joho coupled with recent re-organisation of house committees ticked off clashes in the Orange Party.

Junet is said to have been confronted by Ruaraka MP TJ Kajwang over “skewed assigning of MPs to House committee slots,” forcing him to leave in a huff an ODM MPs’ WhatsApp group in a huff.

A meeting called by ODM chairman John Mbadi to iron out the differences is said to have ended in disarray.

“Leaders, especially Luos, have been concerned that their support for Baba is taken for granted. Questions emerged on why none of them was considered for the trip,” said an ODM legislator.

Junet has been accused of being in the ‘Super League’ leaders close to Raila who include Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga, her Kisumu counterpart Rosa Buyu and the party’s secretary for political affairs and Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi who have been intimidating their colleagues.

But Junet and TJ Kajwang’ refused to comment on the matter, while Wanga and Mbadi downplayed the downfall.

Sources said Raila have a liking for Junet because he is loyal, can get things done and gives him and the ODM party a national look as a Somali legislator at the heart of Luo nation.
