Migori police are holding a rogue maid who stole her boss’ one year old infant in Homa Bay town and attempted to flee with her Tanzania.

Suna East police boss Reuben Kemboi said the suspect identified as Agnes Atieno Onyango, 25, is being held at Migori police station and will be arraigned in court soon.

“He stole the infant on Wednesday morning, but prompt action of the father and members of the public rescued the infant and she was arrested by the public before police took over,” Kemboi said,

He called on Kenyans to ensure they have proper identification of their maids to help them in time of arrests.

The father of the infant, Abdulazziz Jillo from Sango estate in Homa Bay town said the suspect wanted a job for a minimum wage of Sh1,500 a month and when turned away she begged to work during the day and reside elsewhere.

“She was brought by a neighbor yesterday and I refused to give her the job, my daughter who is 15 years insisted and we hired her yesterday where she did some household chores and went home,” Jillo said.

In the morning, she sent her daughter for breakfast before taking the infant and some clothes and fled.

“The maid claimed she was from Kasipul, but her Swahili and clothes revealed she was from Tanzania that is why after reporting at the police I rushed to Migori,” Jillo said.

The family shared the infant;’s photos in social media and vehicles plying the Homa Bay-Migori-Isebania route where she was spotted when she alighted with three other women and the minor.

Peter Boi, a resident said they noticed something was amiss when the saw the women with a kid who was crying loudly and on inquiry they started hurrying off.

“We lost them and traced them to a Mpesa shop where they had withdrawn money, we took their phone number and police help us locate them around Mabera as they weer rushing to Tanzania,” Boi said.

The suspect moved towards Stella and picked another vehicle to pass through town before she was flagged off at Posta grounds.

Angry member of the public started lynching the suspect before police whisked her away.
