Awendo MP Walter Owino has termed as fake a report by an NGO that he has never spoken in parliament since 2017.

Owino termed the report as misleading insisting he has severally articulated issues on the floor of the house issues touching on sugarcane sector and EACC including sponsoring a bill on the floor of the house.

Evidence from Hansard

The report by Mzalendo Trust, a Parliamentary Monitoring Organization (PMO) released on Wednesday morning listed him among silent legislators.

“This is a political witch hunt, the group should take a cursory look at the hansard report or even check YouTube for videos where I have spoken. This report should be treated with the utmost contempt it deserves,” he said.

Already a video seen by Migori News showed the legislator on February 26, 2020 rising to seek answers from the ministry of Agriculture and Livestock over when Sony Sugar management was going to pay farmers, workers and suppliers.

“We need to be open and source of funding to such NGOs investigated including their motive, this was in very bad faith,” he said.

He wondered: “I wonder what method was used to place me in the ranks, I see politics and mischief in the listing. This is in bad faith.”

Other MPs listed included: Tepo (Isiolo South), Abdi Shurie (Balambala), Ahmed Gaal (Tarbaj), Johnson Naicca (Mumias West), Amin Deddy (Laikipia East) Geofrey Kingagi (Mbeere South), James Gakuya (Embakasi North), George Aladwa (Makadara), John Owino (Awendo), Oscar Sudi (Kapseret), Stanley Muthama (Lamu West), Gideon Konchella (Kilgoris), Justus Kizito (Shinyalu), Samuel Arama (Nakuru Town West), Alfred Sambu (Webuye East) and James Mukwe (Kabuchai).

Three female legislators Rose Museo (Makueni), Beatrice Kones (Bomet East) and Amina Gedow (Mandera) were said to be silent.
