Government has interdicted ten chiefs and their assistants in Kuria region over laxity to tackle the ongoing cases of Female Genital Mutilation.
“We have talked with the administrators and we have interdicted ten chiefs and their assistants over laxity to fight the vice as government looks on ways to set up a rescue center,” Gender and Public Service CAS Rachael Shebesh said.
Shebesh led a delegation which included Migori Woman Representative Pamela Odhiambo and county commissioner Boaz Cherutich.
Others were Gender PS Prof. Colleta Suda and Anti-FGM Board chair Agnes Pareiyo.
“Six police officers who have helped in arresting culprits have been lined for promotion,” Cherutich said.
The two said police and chiefs are the best link to fight the vice as the community knows the action is illegal and need enforcement to end the vice.
They were speaking from Msichana Empwerment-Kuria rescue center in Ikerege.
