Migori Women MCA’s have vowed to fight to repay Raila Odinga for enabling a significant number women appointed to leadership positions.

They said they were going to actively participate in weekly demonstrations and sensitize their people not to take part in coming elections as the house breaks for recess.

The MCA’s said in earlier times, women were not recognized as only few women were elected or appointed to hold leadership positions.

Sixteen women were nominated to Migori assembly to join other elected leaders to fulfill the two thirds gender rule in the house.

Led by nominated MCA Caroline Okere, they said women had been reduced to borrowing and handouts but were salvaged with the promulgation of the 2010 constitution fought for by Odinga.

“We were part of a conveyer belt of ‘Sangwenya’s’ waiting for our husbands to deliver or handouts from politicians,” Okere said.

Okere said her fellow Women MCA’s had vowed to invest all their resources to ensure that Odinga is elected as the president.

But Okere also decried the excessive use of force applied to deal with demonstrating NASA supporters calling for IEBC reforms.

She mentioned a case where a 75 year old woman who was walking from a local hospital was shot and critically injured on her right shoulder.

“Let them know that we will not be cowered through the beatings, harassment and shootings,” Okere said.

Nominated MCA to represent persons with disability Esther Onana wondered whether the votes Uhuru Kenyatta was moving through parts of the Country looking for are the same police officers were killing.

Onana said they were touched with the manner in which their husbands and children were killed but vowed not to slow down in calling for IEBC reforms.

They maintained that as women MCA’s they had agreed in one resolve not to engage in any election activity unless advised by NASA flag bearer Odinga.

“Election is a process and if IEBC does not comply with anything that Raila Odinga has said then anything happening on 26th will just be a birthday party,” Onana said.
