Residents of Migori County have been put on notice to strictly follow all health regulations on Covid-19 or face arrest and prosecution in the second wave of the virus spike in the country

County Commissioner Boaz Cherutich said today that new security orders have been put in place to enforce compliance by all residents at all places.

He said this as reports from the local health department indicated that 3 more people had succumbed to the disease in the second wave of the disease attack. The new deaths brings to 10 the number of coronavirous related deaths since the advent of the disease in the country.

Addressing security agents and health officials at the Migori town IFAD hall, Mr. Cherutich said with effect from today, security officials in collaboration with the local health officials have been directed to mount serious crackdown on the people and places flouting the laid down measures to fight further disease infections in the area.

“Due to the rising Coronavirus infections in the area and the country at large, we have decided to focus more on issues of control and therefore wananchi will be required to observe strictly all the spelt out measures to deal with the disease,” he told the press soon after the meeting that brought together all senior police officers and deputy county commissioners in the area.

He said all the DCCs will have to form vibrant sub county enforcement teams with a responsibility to also carry out elaborate civic education to the masses on the disease as well as reporting of new developments about the disease by the end of each-day.

The administrator said all the health protocols such as wearing face-masks, washing hands, sanitizing, keeping social distancing and generally avoiding crowded places must be adhered to by all.

He urged the police to ensure that public vehicles operators always observed the existing rules put in place against the virus and deal ruthless with those abusing them.

“We want to move away from laxity on the war against the virus that has been witnessed among the people in the recent days and focus seriously again on issues that will make people fully embrace all the existing health measures towards curbing the spread of the virus in the community,” said Cherutich.

The administrator also directed the security agents to seriously fight cattle rustling and female genital mutilation (FGM) in the region.

He said the vices were retrogressive to the development efforts being made in the region warning that unless they are stopped the county will remain a laughing stock in the country.

Concerning education, Mr Cherutich said the education department in the area had started taking inventory of all grade 4, class eight and form four candidates with a view to know the whereabouts of those who have not reported back to school.

Schools, he added, had also started receiving desks being provided under the economic stimulus program initiated by the government to help meet the social distancing rules in classrooms.

He urged parents and the local leaders to support the government in all its endeveour to fight Corona and bring development to people.
