A Kampala based top City lawyer with 12 years’ experience in law practice, expert in legislative drafting and lecturer has joined the race for Migori County speaker seat.

Counsel Allan Ignatius Kokeyo hails from Awendo constituency, went to school in Kanga High School before taking his Bachelor’s Law degree at Makerere University and Post-Graduate Diploma in Law at the Law Development Centre (LDC).

“I have worked in several law firms, held several law positions for multinational organisations and above all I have a passion to represent the county in spurring development and devolution with the highest cadre of Integrity and impartiality,” Kokeyo told Migori News.

Kokeyo said he had a three point pillar when elected Speaker on Wednesday, which he is confident of clinching.

“First is restoring independence of the County assembly away from influence of the Executive, championing and putting in place the welfare of members of the County Assembly and staff. Finally, to ensure MCAs play their legislative, oversight and development role to spur development without fear or favor” he said.

Kokeyo said he will ensure MCAs get Ward Development funds to make sure residents feel the effect of devolution.

Kokeyo is the son of former Majority Leader of Migori County Assembly Eunita Kokeyo and yearns for Awendo constituency’s representation at the county.

Kokeyo is currently a Law lecturer at Cavendish University, Uganda and the legal counsel for Association of Kenyans living in Uganda. He comes in as an affluent, energetic and professional Lawyer.

“I have an ambition and the vision to make Migori County Assembly the blueprint and yardstick for other County Assemblies to emulate if elected in the position” He said.
