Teachers Without Borders has helped 40 families in Rongo sub-county affected by economic downturn caused by the Covid19 pandemic.

Led by commissioner Carolyne Oyatta, the group helped the families at the Rongo education offices with a donation of various food items which included cabbages, cooking flour, dagaa, cooking oil, rice, masks and bar soap.

“The programme is under the a corona charity outreach edition where teachers contribute what they have to benefit society,” Oyatta said.

Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), Rongo branch executive secretary Eunice Bosco lauded her colleagues for the positive gesture which saw “the needy in the society feeling self-worth and at least feel appreciated.”

“We gave priority to those living with disability, orphans, widows and the less fortunate which will create a sense of belonging, we urge all leaders in the entire country to come together and emulate what has been done by TEBO members,” Bosco said.

Oyatta said the virus spreads fast calling for more sensitization on how to control it.

“Government has done enough to ensure the virus is effectively controlled, residents to ensure they observe all the measures given by government in combating the spread of Covid 19,” she said.

Rongo Teachers Service Commission director Gideon Owade applauded teachers for pooling their resources in tough economic times to help those who are less fortunate in the society.
