Police in Nyatike constituency of Migori County are investigating a case in which a teacher was found murdered and his body buried in a pit latrine.
The body of the middle aged teacher, who was teaching in a local primary school, was found buried in the latrine just behind a bar in Macalder town.
According to Nyatike OCPD Tom Onyango, the man had gone missing from his home ten days ago and the incidence reported to the police station by his relatives.
“His relatives reported that he had just disappeared and nobody knew where he had gone to,” he said.
His body, which had deep panga cuts, was discovered buried in the pit latrine by a group of revellers who had gone to use the facility in Macalder town.
And soon after the discovery, the area residents went on rampage, burning eight houses belonging to two suspects, among them the owner of the bar whom they accused of being behind the killing.
However, police moved quickly and saved the two suspects before they could be lynched by the mob.
The body of the teacher was then moved to Migori Level 4 hospital mortuary where it is still lying while the two suspects are still being held at the Migori Police Station as investigations into the issue continue.
