It was joy for over 30 inmates at the Migori GK Prison after Suna East women group donated 47 chicken for the inmates to start poultry farming, amongst other freebies including sanitary towels, soaps, toothpaste, and other items.

Reading from a document the commissioner informed on the requirements to qualification for tender awarding after which 47 chicken were given out to kick start the chicken project.

According to Miss Judy Mwangi the Chairlady of the self-help group, the chicken taken to prison were meant to provide eggs that will be a change in diet for the women and children raised in the prison.

‘The chicken will be taken care of by three people from our group who will be checking in to bring food and medication, the chicken are meant to supplement the diet of children raised in the prison and women’ she said.
