Moyale MP Duba leads striking workers to invade Migori governor Obado office over Sh134m arrears

By MN Reporter

Irate members of Migori county government workers stormed the office of governor Okoth Obado prompting top officials to flee for their lives.

Their anger was first evident when they unanimously pooled the main gate and broke into the office compound led by Moyale MP Roba Duba.

The irate workers who chanted anti county govt slogans aired their grievances in reaction to a statement by the county governor Okoth Obado who had issued a return to work ultimatum by today(Tuesday) 8am failure to which they would lose their jobs.

Speaking at the scene after the workers had taken to their heels, Mr Duba faulted the governor saying the threats he was issuing were baseless and would not solve anything, instead he should be committed to finding solution through dialogue.

He cautioned against running from work stations saying it was unorthodox way of managing a county.

Migori County workers Secretary Baraza Nguka said all they demanded was arrears worth sh134million and remittance of their deductions to their respective banks.

However the strike is a blessing to the matatu operators, boda boda riders and vendors who now break laws at will, and further fail to remit their taxes.

County workers strike entered into the third day, and most of them have vowed not to get back to their work stations.

Mr Nguka said, “We are not working in Obado’s farm and he can’t fire us”.

Attempts by Migori News to have the county governments side were futile as all offices were closed and phones were not going through.
