A second years student from Rongo University College has been arrested by police after trying to procure an illegal abortion.

Rongo police arrested the student after she had already aborted and dumped the fetus in a pit latrine.

Rongo OCPD Catherine Irungu told Migori News said the student identified as Lydia Mwenesi Ngatia is taking a bachelors degree in Education.

Irungu said the student went to the University clinic complaining of pain after drinking an abortion inducing drug.

“Medics did tests and realized she was pregnant,” she said.
Irungu said the suspect had moved to a toilet within the institution where she aborted the fetus and dumped it before heading back to the clinic.

She said suspicious medics ran a second test before realizing she had aborted before alerting them.
