Ken Ocholla’s candidacy for Rongo Constituency parliamentary seat yesterday received a massive boost after over a hundred youths drawn from the constituency pledged to back his candidacy.
The youths, drawn from North Kamagambo, East Kamagambo and Central Kamagambo wards said they had resolved to support Ocholla since he had proved that he was capable of uniting and leading the constituency.
Speaking in Rongo town after the meeting, Timothy Orwa, the group’s chairman said that after looking at all the candidates who had so far declared their interest in the Rongo seat, they had settled on Ocholla due to his unifying abilities.
“We believe he is the best person to lead Rongo going forward. We have really been influenced by his manifesto which basically covers all issues affecting the constituency,” Orwa said.
He was supported by Katherine Awiti from Central Kamagambo who said unlike Ocholla’s manifesto, some candidates did not seem to have good grasp of the issues affecting the constituencies and only talking about generalities.
“We realise that some candidates do not even know the constituency’s boundaries well, leave alone issues affecting Rongo,” she said adding that Ocholla had also indicated that he would work on improving the living conditions of women and youths in the constituency.
The youths promised to launch a massive campaign across the constituency to ensure that he wins the seat. He will be battling it out with former Cabinet Minister Dalmas Otieno for the seat.
