Over 400 staff at Rongo University Collge joined their national colleagues to demonstrate against the high health insurance rates aby National Hospital Insurance Fund.

Transport was on Thursday paralyzed along Rongo – Migori road following the strike.

Addressing the workers at Rongo University Main Campus in Rongo Sub –county, Migori County, the branch chairman Benard Odhiambo said that the government implemented the new rates on NHIF without consulting stakeholders.

“We will be on the streets until we get the results out,” he said.

He added that the workers had called for a meeting so that they could negotiate and come to agreement with the people concerned but in vein instead they chose to go to the industrial court and implemented the deductions illegally.

He said that they have decided to protest and that the strike will not stop until they sit and agree and they will not let the government still from its citizens.

Benard Odhiambo said that the deductions begun in April and they want their money to be refunded and said that the deductions should stop further deductions asap.
