Rongo man shot dead by police for killing dog, drinking its blood and attempting to kill family

Rongo police were forced to shoot dead a man who went berserk and threatened to kill his family after killing a dog drank its blood and ate the head.

The family of George Otieno Okoth, 40 from Ndege Oriedo village in Rongo sub-county said the deacesed threatened to kill them.

He later turned to a family dog, killed it, cut off its head and drank the blood before starting to chew on the head.

“He chased away his wives and ten children with sharp panga before starting to threaten extended family mebers,” a neighbor said.

Rongo police boss Peter Okiring’ told the press on Tuesday that the man armed with panga was unruly until police came and tried to disarm him.

“Police were forced to shoot in the air severally after our attempts and those from his family to tell the man to calm down failed,” Okiring’ said.

The deceased is said to have tried to kill a police officer in the melee which forced him to be shot dead.

He said the body was taken to Rosewood Hospital Mortuary as police have launched investigations over the incident.
