Migori residents have called on Suna East MP Junet Mohammed to ensure Kakrao TTI is completed six years after Uhuru Kenyatta launched it in the infamous shoe throwing incident.

On September 2014, Kenyatta had launched the college which was unsuccessful after shoes were thrown at his presidential dias which saw the project stalling ever since.

Rongo University Vice Chancellor Professor Gudu Samuel Gudu has Junet’s NG-CDF kitty and the the Ministry of Education to release funds meant to finish the construction of the college.

He was speaking during a public participation in an attempt to find out what should be done to complete the construction which brought together residents.

Gudu said Suna East should release the needed Sh7.5 million, the remaining balance to finish the project.

“Migori county promised to inject Sh10million to complete the project, but only released Sh2.5million. They stopped after being told the project was for national government,” Gudu said.

He said Rongo University was mandated by the Ministry of Education to oversee the construction of three technical institutes in Migori County, Kakrao TTI being one of them. The two others are Kiandege TTI in Kuria East and Mabera TTI Kuria West, which are completed.

Junet’s PA Ochieng’ Ogejo said they were ready to complete the college, but first county government needs to officially write a letter pulling out of the project to avoid duplication of funds.

He said Migori is yet to write explaining how the Sh2.5million issued was used and what was to be covered by the remainder.

‘Junet is aware of the project and harmonization process is on, once completed we will release the funds which are available,” he said.

He defended Junet and Suna East NG-CDF management board saying they were not opposed to the construction of the Kakrao TTI but they were only seeking legal way of releasing the funds.

Addressing the same event, Migori County Youth Presidents Joseph Nyapete blamed politics as the main hindrance towards completion of the training institute.

He urged Suna East Constituency CDF management board to release the remaining shs 7.5 million towards the completion of the TTI.

Nyapete regretted that youths were being disadvantaged if the project will not be completed soon to allow admission.

The youth president said the youths were nonpartisan and they should enjoy their rights through the completion of the college.
