Migori speaker Boaz Okoth has said he is confident of replacing his political ally governor Okoth Obado in the 2022 general elections.

Okoth, in a special interview with Migori News said most of his rivals have tried to belittle hi bid because they think he is a political lightweight.

“I am aware i am facing political bigwigs and old guards, but i will trounce them easily. I am the candidate who will give a political miracle when I will send them home,” Okoth said.

He was reacting to the January 23 remarks by Suna East MP Junet Mohamed  chided the speaker governor bid as ‘Miujiza’ (miracle) during the burial of former Ndhiwa MP Owigo Olang’ in Sori town, Nyatike constituency.

“Junet called my bid a miracle, but I took it positively because across my political career I have survived on miracles as I took on heavyweights,” Okoth said.

In 2013, Okoth was elected on a little known Agano Party as North Kadem MCA after then Nyatike MP Edick Anyanga ensured he was locked out in all Cord affiliated party tickets.

“It was a miracle to be elected an MCA and i was lucky to convince my colleagues in ODM stronghold to vote for me as their deputy speaker. When Gordon Ogolla was impeached as speaker i acted in that capacity until the first house ended,” he said.

He said Obado placed development foundation in Migori which he will build on to “put the county into social-economic recovery path.”

“We will not have an outsider come in as a governor to disrupt what we have already built, I will work on this strength to make Migori successful,” he said.

Currently, Okoth is battling graft charges at Kisumu based anti-corruption court amid seat which has attracted over ten aspirants.

He will face off with senator Ochillo Ayacko, Woman Representative Pamela Odhiambo, former Rongo MP Dalmas Otieno, former Nyatike MP Edick Anyanga and former Migori MP John Pesa are leading the race.

Among others are US based university dons Prof Mark Ogutu, Migori county Secretary Christopher Rusana, businessman Seth Odongo, businessman Philip Mwabe and Owiso Ngao are also in the race.
