Anthony Okemwa Obare and Godfey Odhiambo were arrested in Migori town while harassing locals.

According to Police commandant Joseph Nthenge, a nurse at the Migori County referral hospital alerted the police after Obare tried to exhort money from her.

“He told them he is a police officer attached to CID and is on field duties,” said Nthenge.

Nthenge said police then laid a trap and lured him to his arrest at the Huduma Center in Migori town.

The suspects were apprehended with police identification cards indicating they were Senior Superintendent of Police attached to the Criminal Investigation Department.

“He (Obare) was found with a police ID, which is improvised, bearing the same names on his National ID. This one does not belong to the police,” said Nthenge.

The Migori police boss said the Obare’s ID card showed he was a resident of Suba Central location, in Oruba in Migori.

He urged members of the public to come forward with information if they had been conned by people claiming to the police.

He also advised members of the public to demand identification details from people who approach them claiming to be police officers.
