Two parents suspected to have married off their teen children are being held at Migori Police Station.

Evance Anditi, accepted his 14 years old girl and a class six pupil at Nyamome Primary School to be married off to her 16 years old lover and a class eight pupil after accepting to receive three cows as dowry from the boy’s father David Mwingi

Speaking to Migori News, Jared Abila the Oruba sub-location assistant chief said he was alerted after the two failed to reach an agreement over the payment of the dowry.

Abila said the girl’s mother reported that her daughter had eloped from home and hinted on a bride price that alerted him.

“The two families had signed an agreement letter of consent over a marriage of the minors,” he said.
The administrator had reported an issue over lack of payment of bride price and he realised that minors were involved in the transaction.

“I arrested the suspects and apprehended them to Migori police station for further questioning,” he said.
He said the minors have escaped from home after the arrested and police have launch a manhunt for them.
