Parents given sheep to encourage disabled students in school

The ministry of education has launched a programme in Rongo to give sheep to parents with disabled children to encourage them to go to school.

In Opapo primary seven pupils have already benefited after each was given a sheep to rear at home.

The school’s head teacher, Dickson Osore said the project which was launched by education officials last week will ensure that all children were given equal opportunity on compulsory education to every Kenyan child regardless of status.

“Having physically challenged in our midst is not a curse as some people tend to believe and they should be fully educated,” Osore added.

“Disability is not inability as many of such persons who acquired quality education and training are great dignitaries serving in various capacities both within and outside the country,” education official Mildred Odero noted.

The father of seven children, Gilbert Okinyo, expressed optimistic that he will have easy way of supporting his children learning process with ease when the number of the animal he was given shall have increased.

He appealed to parents who confined such children at home to enroll them in school to acquire quality education that will enable them be considered for competitive employment both within and internationally.
