(VIDEO) Pamela launched kitchen garden project for Migori women

Over 231 women groups in Migori county will benefit from kitchen garden project started by Woman Representative Pamela Odhiambo.

On Monday, her office launched the project in Piny Oyie, Suna West constituency led by Jael Lumumba.

“We launched the project which will provide sukuma wiki, spinach and onion seedlings to the groups drawn across all 40 wards in the county,” Lumumba said.

She was speaking at Love World Green Youth Group nursery.

“This will go along way to help in them propagate the kitchen gardens,” Lumumba said.

The launch will come in hand with the ongoing short rains and “help tackle Covid 19 by boosting immunity and boost their income,” Lumumba said.

“The groups were trained on best way to propagate their farms, maintain the farms and how to sell produce from their kitchens,” she said.

Tom Oluoch, a horticulture specialists said by having a 5 by 5 meters space and individual “can have 830 onion seedlings which can fetch Sh8,000 in two months as an onion sells for Sh10 per bulb.”

He said the same space can have 80 seedlings of sukumawiki and spinach which can be add additional income.
