Residents of Oruba estate in Migori town are fearing for their lives after an electric pole fell on one of the houses forcing them to live in the dark.

The residents who have been faced to live in the dark for one week met the ordeal a week ago after a heavy storm hit the area.

The heavy rain that was accompanied by strong winds fell on the house of John Oburu forcing him to look for alternative source of accommodation.

Speaking to the press in Oruba, Oburu said the electric pole that fell on his house spoils damaging the roof forcing him to move his family out.

“The rain season is here and this roof could not allow us to stay in this house. We were forced to look for another house to stay in as we wait for Kenya power to come,” Oburu said.

Oburu however said one week was too long for Kenya power to act adding that he could not manage to pay for another house yet he had a house.

The man also blamed Kenya Power for laxity as he joined other residents who expressed fears that the fallen pole could cause a fire that would cause more than they had already experienced.

The residents said they had been forced to live in the dark for close to a week and they feared that criminal activities could increase in the crime prone estate.

Elsewhere, a spot check in Migori town has shown that businesses in Migori town have been worse hit by incessant unannounced power cuts.

It was discovered that businesses resorted to close as early as 5PM as businesses feared for the security of their wares due to the several unannounced blackouts.

“Darkness in this town escalates cases of burglary and muggings forcing us to close very early,” explained Nixion Madegwa business person in Migori town.
