The Orange Democratic Movement party has announced rules for its party primaries with only nine months to general elections.
The party through Judy Pareno, Chairperson of National Election Board said the amount and rules are governed by party constitution and National Executive Board ruling of last Sunday.
Across of elective positions of President, MP, Senate, Governor and MCAs the common rules among them are:
1. Be registered as a voter in the area which an aspirant seeks election,
2. Be a life member of the Party,
3. Demonstrate active participation in Party programs six months prior to seeking nomination, provided that the National Executive Committee may for good cause which shall be specifically documented, exempt an applicant from this requirement, subject to any conditions it may deem fit,
4. Applicants MUST NOT be in arrears of any contributions to the party.
5. Other rules placed by IEBC.
Apart from that and a myriad of other rules specific to each posts, the nomination non-refundable price required are as follows:
1. President- Sh1,000,000
2. Governors- Sh500,000
3. Member of Parliament- Sh250,000
4. Senate- Sh250,000
5. Women Representative Seat- Sh125,000
6. Member of County Assembly- Sh25,000 (Sh15,000- for Special Interest groups
Additionally party members holding branch (County) party positions and seeks to vie “shall be required to resign from office by a written notification to the NEC at least one month before the scheduled date of party nominations.”
While Public Servants can file their “expression of interest pending their resignations as civil servants.”
