Obado should resign over Sh600million and leave politics out- Nyamita

Migori governor aspirant Mark Nyamita has challenged Obado to do a honourable thing and step aside to allow for investigations over Sh600million lost through corruption.

Nyamita insisted Obado should step aside to allow for investigations into the alleged scandals terming the amount lost as huge.

“Honestly Obado should stop this blame games and allow investigations to go on as directed because failure of the governor to resign from office in effect to the requirement of the law is a breach of rule of law,” Nyamita said.

He called Obado’s claims that his political opponents are behind his resigning as myopic and ill mannered.

“He should take responsibility and resign from office as he waits for clearance against the claims,” said Nyamita.

But Obado, in response to Nyamita’s remarks, Obado said he will not be swayed by any demands from his opponents or from the national government to resign since his conscience was clear he is a clean man.

The livid Obado now wants President Uhuru Kenyatta to resign first before the governors named in the list of corrupt officials authored by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

The two leaders were speaking on Sunday during a funds drive in aid of Minyenya Secondary School of Rongo Sub-County.

“I will only resign as the county governor of Migori after the President shall have taken precedence in abandoning his office for failure to abate corruption in his cabinet,” he said.

He said all the cabinet secretaries named in Kenyatta’s government were an indication that he was not fully in charge of corruption doings in his government.

“If the president is sincere that he wants all the governors who were named in that list of shame to resign, then the buck should stop at him first and take responsibility over the same allegations within his cabinet. And by so doing, the governors will also follow suit,” said Obado.
