Migori county governor Okoth Obado has refuted claims that Migori county government will donate Sh.70M to Legio Maria church for the construction of the church.

Speaking through his director of Administration Domnic Akugo, the director stated that the county government will the locals of the area and the church the basic needs like good roads and provide clean and safe water for drinking.

“As a leader chosen by the people the governor just donated to the church as a Christian and as a leader and the county government should not be involved into the matter, furthermore the church has already built part of the building at 30 M, so what will they use the other 70M said in papers? They only lack 40M”. He added.

The Legio Maria church of Africa is constructing a 70m church which will also house the tomb of the founding father of the church the late Melkiah Ondeto who died in 1991. The church has already spent a total of 30m in the initial construction and will organize more fundraising to acquire 40m needed to finance the completion of the church.

However, Mr. Akugo requested the locals to shun bad leaders and join the current leadership of Migori County in moving the county to the next level in development.

He advised the residence of Migori County to ignore propaganda aimed at causing havoc in the already existing peace in the county which might derail progress of massive development projects in the county.

“Everything said with some politicians are baseless propaganda that will not only derail our county but will interfere with the good things we have done as a county”. He said.

Governor obado joined the legion Maria faithful last week and helped the church raise more than 1.5M intended to support the construction of the church at God Kwer in Suna west sub county.

Governor Obado while giving his speech to the faithfuls, he promised to work in hand with the church to help improve the church status as it is African.

“This is one of the Africans most respected church and we will work closely with the church members to make this church be a tourist site like the people of Jerusalem do”. He said.
