Migori county governor Okoth Obado has advised youths to join cooperative Sacco’s to expand their savings and raise more capital for a better economically well being.
Speaking while distributing 25 motor cycles to Kuria East boda boda Sacco, governor Obado said saving is the best way of investing especially among the youths and women.
“We urge our youths and women to join groups and form a SACCO that will see us boost our mode of saving as a community, from here we shall get all that we want from the government”. He said.
Different youths in boda boda sector from Suna West, Kuria West, Nyatike and Kuria East has so far benefited from the governor’s motor cycle project and the Obado advised the youths to use this as a source of employment.
However, Obado asked tobacco farmers in the region to ignore companies that do not value them criticizing the zoning method used by the companies as derailing development in agriculture sector.
“The issue of zoning by our companies is not helping our farmers as it gives room for interfering more with the tobacco prices, you can’t leave a particular region for one company as they only infringe our farmers,” he added.
Tobacco farmers in the county has currently been in wars with the companies and Obado appealed for the farmers to give him room to bring a long term solution that will help the farmers.
“I know the kind of problems our farmers are undergoing but we are soon getting a solution, if the companies in the county are not helping our farmers then we will bring a new company to rescue the farmers”. He said.
Governor Obado also advised the farmers to venture into new farming methods that will see the farmers get quicker and more productive harvest.
“We are also advising our farmers to grow crops like soya beans, cassava and practise dairy farming to change the agricultural production of the county”. He added.
Obado distributed cheques worth 4.6M to students from Nyabasi East and West wards and later distributed 25 motor cycles to boda boda Sacco in Kuria East Sub County.
