Migori County Commissioner Boaz Cherutich has revealed that the government will pump over Sh60million to Lower Kuja Irrigation scheme.

He said the money will be used to extend block 5 aimed at bringing more  acres of land under irrigation.

“Locals should embrace the project which has seen them empowered economically and generally improve their livelihoods,” he said.

He also said government is determined to accomplish tarmacking 41 km Masara- Sori road by 2021 to open the place for businesses and boost local and international tourism potential in the area.

He was speaking at Sori Market Grounds recently.

He said to boost security in Lake Victoria, the country will deploy coast guards to end harassment of fishermen, especially from Tanzania and Uganda forces.

Cherutich challenged fishermen at the Lake Markets to observe orderliness and only engage in fish trade that benefits them and the general growth of the economy.

Commissioner Cherutich however pleaded with the locals to work closely with government security organs deployed in Nyatike for their good.

During their visit month in the month of August Parliamentary Security committed led by Kiambaa Member of Parliament Jeremiah Kioni recommended more patrol vehicles along the international border in Migori County.

Kioni said more patrol vehicles will control illicit trade and 11also deal with drugs and human trafficking.
