Rongo OCS and several armed police officers were assaulted by irate North Kamagambo ward in a July 7 night running battles to prevent arrest of a suspect.

In retaliation, the OCS and officers through North Kamagambo chief John Agoro lured four residents, including a form three student, on July 14 where they allegedly assaulted them at Kamagambo police station

“On July 7, armed police arrived at a widow’s home after midnight and started staking away two ox drawn ploughs and sugarcane crushers,” Samuel Orima, a North Kamagambo MCA said.

According to Orima said the widow had a problem with her daughter-in-law who also lost her husband.

“She was only woken at night, when the officers accompanied by her daughter in law were taking the property. Her wails attracted villagers who wondered why the operation was taking place past midnight,” he said.

Villagers armed with stones and other crude weapons managed to repel off the officers through a hide and seek attacks. The OCS was hit by a stone in the face as they were forced to fire several in the face.

Two villagers Eddy Ogolla and Sospeter Oyala said the police were hitting back following the attack.

But Rongo OCPD Jonathan Kisaka denied the attack on villagers, but said they were arrested and were to be arraigned in court on Monday.

“We had investigations, police statements and the four villagers will face justice,” he said.
He said they are investigating politicians who incited the locals against police.
