The new Kanga High School principal Reuben Kodiango has urge parents to continue monitoring their children education even after high school.

He said after Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) most learners risk to discontinue their studies in colleges or at the university due to peer influence.

Speaking to Migori News, the principal said most parents only work closely with teachers in high schools to ensure their children were able to perform well in KCSE, and lose interest shortly afterwards.

Kodiango however expressed fears of some learners who are soon to join the university being lured into use of hard drugs and illicit behaviours at the university or colleges.

“We have have some instances where students are lured into illicit behaviours at the university by their peers and this has in return affected their academic achievements. I call on parents to continue naturing their children despite age to ensure they are kept on the right track.” Said Kodiango.

The chief principal urged parents to keep in touch with dean of students at their childrens’ respective institutions to help them monitor their academic performance rather than getting shocked after several years when the students had dropped from college.

“It’s a pity how much a parent would spend to see his/her child through school just to be shocked after four years that they had dropped from college and were not able to graduate with their peers. Parents must not embrace luxity towards their children. They remain children for as long as we parents Carter for their needs and education and therefore must remain vigil towards guiding them in the right direction,” added Kodiango.
